First birthdays are exciting, crazy times filled with love, shock (where did the time go?!) and panic (what do i do?!).
Well firstly make sure you book your cake smash with us! It's the perfect memory to treasure forever. Don't miss out!
Secondly - the party. Now i know some parents don't believe if first birthday parties as what will they remember? This is true but it's a fantastic time to get together with loved ones you may not have seen in a while, take photos and also give the older children around you a little fun!
Where are you going to host it? If you're lucky enough to have a summer baby or a large gathering area, host at your home. There's nothing better than creating memories in the home, your baby will hopefully be more relaxed throughout in familiar surroundings and it keeps costs down!
We would suggest a late morning or mid afternoon...why? Because this means you don't have to feed people a full course lunch or dinner, simple snack food is great but more about that later! It also gives other parents a chance to sort their children in terms of naps and feeding times.
Theme it. Trust us, it makes life easier. Celebrities favourite themes in the past two years have been mermaid, ballerina, dinosaurs and space. Of course it doesn't have to be a theme in that sense, a colour theme is also a great way to take a weight off your shoulders. This means that balloons, plates, cups, wrapping paper etc etc is already chosen for you! It also allows for some beautiful photographic evidence! Older children will also appreciate a theme better!
Since there will most likely be adults and children there of various ages, set out a kids table separate from the adults. For children try some healthy snack ideas, tasty and money saving! Woo the adults with some quick homemade snack ideas from Jamie Oliver!
The party should last around an hour and a half, no longer, babies have a short attention span. Create a safe play area where guests can watch the children without being on edge. For older children - prepare pre party bags to give out when they arrive including toys to play with, this should keep them entertained for the duration.
VIPs only, scale back the invites to decrease stress and potential mess.
Foil balloons over Latex to avoid choking hazards.
Check your treats - Make sure guests don't have allergies prior to arrival.
